If you are, you have come to the right place because there has been a rush of scientific competitions in the last couple of days, with prizes from glory to cold hard start-up cash.
NPG’s sister company Digital Science offers the biggest reward with the Catalyst Prize, a programme designed to unleash the most promising new ideas for software in science. Grants of up to £15,000 will be given to projects which will run for about six months with the aim of providing tools or otherwise making scientific research more efficient. If you have an idea, applications are open now.
Meanwhile, PLoS and Mendeley are holding a Binary Battle: a competition for those with ideas, but without the coding skills to build them themselves. Using the PLoS or Mendeley APIs, ideas will be presented to the developer community who will then be able to turn your idea into a completed app. Submit ideas by August 10th, completed apps by September 3rd.
Last but not least, if your thing is less software and more art, take a look at the Robots and Avatars Call for Proposals. They are looking for eight exhibits for a travelling exhibition on robots, avatars, virtual worlds, telepresence and more. Pretty much any type of installation is welcomed: applications by September 7th.
