If you want to see your local surgeon put down the scalpel and pick up a bow, head out to the Hatch Shell tonight for a performance of the Longwood Symphony Orchestra. That’s Longwood as in Longwood Ave., home to Harvard Med and the bulk of the city’s Harvard-linked hospitals.

In addition to surgeons, specialists include: research techs, biostatisticians and even a science writer or two on violins; a psychiatry resident on viola; a plastic surgeon on cello as well as noted stem cell researcher Len Zon on trumpet.
Join Artistic Director Jonathan McPhee for an evening of summer fun for all! This year’s summer series is focusing on the symphonies of Beethoven and LSO will be performing his majestic 4th Symphony. The orchestra will also be playing On Eagle’s Wings by Bill Boston and the George Gershwin’s classic Rhapsody in Blue, featuring Rui Zhang, the winner of the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts Concerto Competition.
If that’s too artsy for you, head over to the Kennedy Library in Dorchester to see “Moon Beat” described as " an award-winning documentary examining America’s efforts to go to the moon -beginning with President Kennedy’s famous 1961 speech and ending with the successful 1969 landing of Apollo XI – from the perspective of the journalists who covered the space race. Filmmaker Kevin Stirling will answer questions following the screening"
