Monday
Surprisingly, NatureLondon doesn’t know of a single event going on today! Do you? Let us know!
Tuesday
Making up for Monday, a whole range of events on Tuesday, with the highlights looking like Robert Winston and Jim al-Khalili talking about The Golden Age of Arabic Science at the Southbank Centre (8pm; £10; book now) or Queen Mary College’s lecture on the Solar Wind, with David Burgess, a member of the Solar Orbiter team (6:30pm; book now)
Wednesday
Another good one at the Chemistry Centre, with Dr Karl Rose, Director of Policy & Scenarios at World Energy Council (formerly of Shell) discussing the results of a year long study into how we could reduce carbon dioxide emissions. 6:30pm; free but book or watch online.
Thursday
A favourite of Nature London, the Grant Museum has another one which needs no editorialising as in their words “zoologists Jack Ashby and Mark Carnall unravel the story of the hand, paw, hoof, fin and flipper.”. A workshop on the evolution of the hand, it starts at 6:30 and features plenty of specimens and a free glass of wine after the event.
The Weekend
Family Fun Day at the Royal Institution again: this time the topic is linked to the Christmas Lectures and entitled “Meet your Brain”. 11am – 4pm; £10 for adults, £5 for juniors and suitable for children of all ages to drop into and try a whole range of amazing activities. On past form, well worth it.
Hampstead Observatory is still running its winter schedule of observing, open Friday and Saturday night 8-10pm for star gazing and Sunday 11-1pm for sun gazing. Free and no need to book, but all weather dependent, so check first.
