James Sherley’s faculty appointment at MIT has officially ended, at least in the eyes of MIT. But Sherley, who is accusing MIT of racism for denying him tenure and says the review of his case hasn’t been fair, refuses to leave. MIT had the locks on his lab and office changed over the weekend, according to an email Sherley sent yesterday. He said that he and his lab cannot get access to research materials (animals, cell cultures) and experiments that are apparently till ongoing.
MIT responded in an email by saying that it’s helping Sherley’s staff with money and office space until they can make other arrangements and that MIT’s environmental health and safety department are dealing with the research materials.
