One for the more technical amongst you today: Silicon Milkroundabout, a careers fair for London’s start-up scene.
The fair is so called for the Old Street area of London which has become the focus of start-up activity in the city, and, thanks to the enormous roundabout at the centre of it, nicknamed Silicon Roundabout. This Sunday, May 15th, start-ups from Old Street and further afield will gather at Bar Music Hall, Shoreditch from 2-6pm to meet experienced developers and new graduates interested in technical roles in start-ups. The event is free, but registration is required.
There are 35 start-ups currently scheduled to attend. A couple of the scientific/communication highlights:
Mendeley: Well known in science circles now as a reference manager and social network for academics. With about 45 employees now, including a couple of old Nature friends, Mendeley lets you import papers to your library, find relevant papers based on your current reading and share with collaborators.
Lanyrd: Uses Twitter to gather together information about conferences: tells you which conferences your contacts are talking about, lets you list yourself as attending and pulls in speaker info, schedules and other materials. This one’s quite good for early spotting of smaller conferences that you might have missed, I’ve found.
Conversocial: One for the community managers, or anyone using social media professionally. All sorts of tools to help you manage your social media content and watch how your audience is responding to it.
