The twin STEREO satellites, intended to take three-dimensional images of the Sun, launched successfully from Cape Canaveral on Wednesday, just before 9 p.m. local time. The two spacecraft will now go into orbit about the moon, and gradually separate to take up their observing positions. They should be sending back images by December.
