The Best Nature Network Blog Posts Ever: The Results

In our very own, somewhat nerdier, version of X-Factor, we last week asked you to vote for your favourite Nature Network blog posts from each of the past three years.

Thank you to everyone who voted. Here, then, are the results for each year rounded to the nearest percentage of total vote:

2007

1. Riding With the King, Richard Grant, 41%

2. Lab Gourmet, Anna Kushnir, 28%

3. SciFoo Ponderings, Corie Lok, 26%

2008

1. My First Nature Paper, Cath Ennis, 34%

2. In Which Work Follows Me On Holiday, Jennifer Rohn, 24%

3. If Only I’d Had A Magic Results Machine In 1836, Charles Darwin, 17%

2009

1. The Nobel Prize in Medicine 2009, Viktor Poor, 40%

2. Squishy Topic, Eva Amsen, 21%

=3. My Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, Stephen Curry, 19%

=3. In Which I Ramp Up, Jennifer Rohn, 19%

Congratulations to all the featured bloggers, especially our gold medallists, Richard, Cath and Viktor. Acceptance speeches welcome below 😉

The results show there is no fixed recipe for writing a popular blog post. The entries above include satire (Stephen, Cath, Charles), cartoon (Viktor), serious analysis (Corie) and insights into the scientific life (Richard, Anna, Jenny, Eva).

Re-reading these posts has been an absolute pleasure. We look forward to a whole new year’s worth of posts, some from bloggers we don’t even know yet, in 2010.

Tomorrow: we’ll reveal the most-read NN blog posts of all time.
