Guest post by Khalil A. Cassimally – Community Manager of SciLogs.com
Two science bloggers joined science blogging network SciLogs.com today. Filmmaker and journalist Kerstin Hoppenhaus and science student Tania Browne bring the total number of science blogs hosted by the network to over forty.
SciLogs.com, which will celebrate its first anniversary in July, launched on the premise that bloggers elicit discussions around which communities form. Creating communities not only adds value to discussions, by allowing various people to contribute their opinions and expertise, but also helps to propagate science to more people. SciLogs.com is part of the wider SciLogs initiative, a collection of science blogging networks in different languages, including English, German, Dutch, Spanish with more in the pipeline. SciLogs.com, the English language branch, is spearheaded by German publisher Spektrum der Wissenschaft in collaboration with nature.com and is one of Nature Publishing Group’s four science blogging networks.
Kerstin Hoppenhaus’s (@quionat) blog, I, EVA, will consist of reports from the heart of Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. Kerstin will shadow numerous scientists during a three-month stint at the institute and will blog about both the science taking place there and the people doing it. You can also follow I, EVA on Twitter here.
Tania Browne (@CherryMakes) will blog about epidemiology and public health on Epilogue. After 20 years working as a chef, Tania is now pursuing her true love and will take readers into the world of the detectives of the science world. Tania’s blog is particularly relevant in the light of flu epidemics, such as the current H7N9 virus.
