Blogs Once again, we said hello to new bloggers on Nature Network this week. Most topically, Nicole Edmison is stationed in the Gulf of Mexico reporting on the ongoing oil disaster. In her own words: I’m hoping to bring you right into the heart of the oiled wildlife response effort to experience the animals, responders, residents, and the environment during this man-made disaster in hopes that we can learn something. The master plan is to report to this blog on a regular basis with photos, video, and commentary on the wildlife situation. There are plenty of people focused on the … Read more

Blogs First of all, a warm welcome to three new bloggers this week. Tom Webb, from his landlocked work station at the University of Sheffield, UK, will explore issues of marine biodiversity. His blog Mola mola is named in honour of the sunfish, a ‘curious beast…like a child’s drawing of a fish’. We also wave a big hello to Vishal Kalel from Ruhr University in Germany, whose GeeK of Science blog promises monthly geek quizzes and updates about recent science news. Finally, Tinker Ready will be blogging for the Boston hub, bringing the latest science news and happenings from that … Read more

Blogs Following the recent general election here in the UK, there has been much commenting on how this will affect science policy. Last but not least, Mike Fowler presents a simple suggestion to improve the peer-review system. And a little reminder: We’ve been continuing our series of posts that guide you … Read more

What is Your Workbench? Your Workbench is a new area of Nature Network which houses various modules (known as apps) that allow you to create your own lens on the scientific web. You can add new apps from a catalogue, drag and drop them to wherever on the page you want to display them, and, in future, even create your own. Workbench functions much like services such as iGoogle and Netvibes, but is specially designed for scientists. By adding apps to your workbench, you can keep track of activity on social networks including Twitter and Facebook, get the latest content … Read more
