Today’s daily dose has a video showing how to grow a rat lung in the comfort of your very own lab!
Science has a report from a Yale Medical School team that performed the first successful transplantation of tissue-engineered lungs in rats. To construct the lungs, they used the same technique that a researcher published in this journal used to create rat livers: an existing organ was stripped down to its extracellular matrix, allowing the new graft to be grown on top of the fibrous tissue scaffold.
