Mendeleev’s famous creation has inspired many reinterpretations and works of art over the years. Even fridge magnets. The concept has now been updated for the 21st Century with a Periodic Table of the Internet.
The Table groups together familiar web sites according to type so, for example, search engines like Google and Yahoo are in Group I, while social networks (MySpace, Facebook…) are in Group XIV. (No Nature Network though. Hmph.) Oh, and I really think you should check out the site in the bottom right corner. Ahem.
By the way, another imaginative periodic table is on show at the new Wellcome Collection on Euston Road. Familiar household objects have been grouped together in a three-dimensional display around the gallery stair case.
