How Big Is That?

World’s Most Diverting Website Of The Afternoon Award goes to the BBC’s new Dimensions site. The idea is simple: what kind of a footprint would various world landmarks and other sizeable objects make if placed on top of your street? There are objects a-plenty to plonk down in your neighbourhood, including the Pentagon, the Great Wall of China, the Glastonbury Festival and even a deep-sea fishing net. Quite a few science-related themes crop up, too. For example, you can view the the size of the moon overlaid on Earth (smaller than I imagined), the Apollo 11 landing site, and the International Space Station compared to your local high street. Deeply fascinating stuff.
