Microtubes on YouTube

Our second research article went live yesterday evening – this one about how you can grow microtubes from polyoxometalate crystals. You can control the direction in which the tubes grow and also how big their diameters are – and to show they are structurally sound, you can flow fluorescent dye through them.

Lee Cronin and colleagues have put up a video on YouTube showing how the tubes can be grown – have a look if you get the chance… there are also a collection of videos associated with the paper as part of the Supplementary Information.

First Month of NYC Hub: Reader Feedback Wanted

This past week marked the first month of the New Your hub on Nature Network. Officially, the site went live on January 26th, 2009 with welcoming blog posts by Barry and I, and much hard work by Corie Lok and the Nature Network team. While this may not be such a momentous occasion for the Boston or London hubs (which date back to 2006 and 2007, respectively), I think it is a great feat for New York City science communication.

Thus, I would like to take this opportunity to ask our readers for their opinions on the site so far. With the launch party coming soon, I thought this would be a good time to get some reader feedback. Feel free to post any suggestions, comments, or concerns.

As far as the blog:

How did you like the topics covered in the blog over the past month?

What topics would you like to see more of in future posts?

As far as the forum:

Was the forum useful to you over the past month?

Will you likely use the forum in the future?

As far as the events page:

Has the events page been informative for you?

Have you attended any of the events you have seen on the NYC hub?

Have you ever or would you ever (in the future) post and event on the NYC hub?

We hope to make the NYC hub the best it can possibly be, so any feedback is appreciated. Thanks New York (and all of our other readers)!
