We’re delighted to announce the involvement of Nature and Nature Network in this year’s 60th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting.
For those of you that haven’t heard of the meetings before, they are an annual event where Nobel Laureates from each year’s featured discipline (Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine) meet on the beautiful island of Lindau on Lake Constance. Several hundred promising young scientists from around the globe are also invited to meet the Laureates and a week of talks and networking follows.
This year’s event is taking place from June 27th – July 2nd and will involve the participation of 61 Laureates across all three disciplines, as well as 679 young researchers.
There are going to be a wealth of social media activities surrounding this year’s event. There will be an official Lindau blog organised by Beatrice Lugger and written by both English and German bloggers, including contributions from Network’s Martin Fenner and Lou Woodley. There will also be an official blog roll for anyone blogging about the meeting. Please email beatrice.lugger@gmail.com or l.woodley@nature.com if you would like to be included on this.
If you are on Twitter, you’ll be able to follow comments using the hashtag #lnlm10 as well as read tweets from the offical account @lindaunobel.
Attendees from this year and previous years have been invited to participate in the Nature Network forum for the event where anyone is invited to join in the conversation about the event. There’s also a Facebook page for the event.
Nature Video has filmed content from the 2008 and 2009 meetings and will be creating more short films from the anniversary celebrations which will be released later this year.
We’re also organising two competitions this year:
Q&A competition
If you have a burning question to ask a Nobel Laureate, why not post it in the Q&A competition? The best questions as voted for by the community will be posed to the Laureates and will feature in a special Nature Outlook supplement to be published later this year.
Flickr competition
We’re inviting attendees at this year’s event to upload photos of the Laureates as well as photos that they think best sum up the atmosphere of the meeting. Anyone can tag the Laureates and there will be a Flip video camera prize for the person who correctly tags the most photos as well as for the best overall picture of the event.
All of these social media features (the offical blog, blogroll, twitter feed, video channel, Q&A, Flickr galllery) will be collated on one convenient aggregation page where you can keep up to date with all the happenings at the meeting. Full details of the programme of the meeting are available here
In anticipation of this big event, we will be featuring some Nobel Prize -themed content on Nature Network in the run-up to the meeting, so do feel free to blog about your thoughts on Nobel prizes or related subjects such as rewarding excellence in science or the role of mentors. You can also contact Lou for further ideas of what you could write about to take part (l.woodley@nature.com).
We hope you enjoy the extensive coverage we have planned and we warmly invite your participation online to make it a success.
