New features: e-alerts and a shiny new events calendar

We’re rather proud of our new-look Events section. We’ve added a clickable calendar view, split events up by day and made it more obvious which events are ongoing. It’s a thing of beauty, we hope you’ll agree. The sheer number of science events that take place in London each week is staggering. In the first week of July alone, we listed 80 – and those are just the ones we know about or users have uploaded.

We’ve also added an email alert system for the groups and forums. You can sign up to receive alerts for any of the groups you are a member of. Notifications let you know about new members, comments, publications, events and notice-board entries. Because we don’t want to fill your inboxes with unwanted email, you’ll need to opt in. So if you think they’d be useful, go to the homepage(s) of your group(s) and click ‘receive email updates’ to customise your options.

In a busy week (thanks tech team), we also fixed some persistent bugs and introduced one or two other small improvements for your delectation. For example, we now have a listing of all the groups in order on size. Congratulations to the Bioinformatics group, who head the table with 83 members.
