We’re sorry to see our East Cambridge neighbor caught up in the Harvard’s recent scientific fabrication scandal. But, the Globe’s book section points out another embarrassing chapter for the Seed publishing house — literally. Editor Adam Bly’s new book “Science is Culture” takes a page or two from Interview magazine. The collection teams up scientists with noted non-science types like screenwriter Michael Gondry and novelist Tom Wolfe.
So, who does our local documentarian get? Scientific fabulist Marc Hauser. The Globe reports in its “Shelf” column.
Presumably, the conversation occurred long before it was reported this summer that an internal investigation at Harvard found evidence of scientific misconduct in Hauser’s laboratory. He is now on leave.
Hauser was paired with Errol Morris, whose documentary film “Standard Operating Procedure,” about abuses at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison, examines questions of moral choice. Their conversation touches on juvenile delinquency, self-presentation, and Stanley Milgram’s controversial experiments in which electric shocks were administered to poor learners.
