Scientific Pub Crawl: Spaces Left

Due to some last minute cancellations, we have a few spaces on the Scientific pub crawl of London tomorrow night (20 August). The event is part of the Science Online London conference taking place on Saturday. Even if you’re not attending the conference, you’re welcome to join us on the pub crawl (but please email me to let me know so I can give you my phone number). Full details below.

We will visit four pubs, all with scientific connections (some more tenuous than others). Along the way, we’ll hear about a mummified philosopher, the inventor of milk chocolate, a pub decorated like Frankenstein’s lab and the most important water pump on the planet. The walk is approximately a mile and a half total, with 45 minute breaks at each bar. All four pubs are in the Bloomsbury and Soho regions of town – pretty much as central as you can get.

The itinerary will try to stick to the following

Thursday 20 August

6.30 meet in the Jeremy Bentham pub

7.30 Museum Tavern

8.30 Ben Crouch Tavern

9.30 John Snow

If you’d like to learn more about the pubs, and see a map of the route, I wrote up the pub crawl for the Londonist web site

Last year we were lucky enough to get seats in every pub, but this cannot be guaranteed, so make sure you’re wearing sensible shoes and are prepared to stand if need be.

Now, how will we recognise one another? Well, I’ll be wearing the grey and red T-shirt from last year’s conference (Science Blogging London 08) so should be fairly easy to spot.
