To further celebrate our first anniversary, I think it would be fun to look at some of the biggest, brashest and best on the Network. Unlike a more famous Book of Records, I won’t be including arbitrary guff like ‘Blogger who can balance the most mangos on a hamster’s back’ or ‘forum moderator with the largest collection of wigs’. (Although if anyone wants to claim such feats, it might make for an entertaining comments thread.)
I’ll kick off with the more workaday ’10 largest groups on the Network’. Numbers indicate the number of members that group has.
1. Bioinformatics 455
2. Science writers 212
3. Post-docs and graduate students of the world 211
4. PhD students 207
5. The Source Event 164
6. Nature Protocols Discussion Forum 161
7. Nature India 144
8. India 135
9. Molecular systems biology 126
10. Nature Network Newcomers 118
Some interesting battles here. Look at the post-docs and PhDs fighting it out for supremacy. And the two India groups jostling around mid-table. But the runaway leader is the bioinformatics folk, with more than twice the population of the second-place science writers.
Who’ll be top a year from now? Well, it’s up to you guys.
