Transport for London and the London Development Agency aim to lead by example with their newly commissioned hydrogen fuel cell. The £2.4 million heat and power plant sits atop the Palestra Building (the weird glass building opposite Southwark Tube station that looks a bit like a bed with a misaligned mattress), which is shared by the two agencies.

The power plant should cut carbon emissions for the building by 40% and save £90,000 on bills each year. The agencies have also decided to sign up to the 10:10 programme, committing themselves to a further 10% cut in carbon emissions over the next year. Palestra has also been ‘retrofitted’ (amazingly, considering the building is only a few years old) with other green technologies, as detailed here.
