The Wellcome Trust’s library has reopened at its historic home, crossing the road from 210 to 183 Euston Road. The collection of books, films and images cover the history and development of medicine and offer ‘expanded access to more than 2.5 million items spanning 3000 years’.
Anyone can visit without booking, though you’ll need an appointment for the audio/visual stuff.
The library’s catalogue is searchable online, and certain historical volumes can be browsed on the “turning the pages”: https://library.wellcome.ac.uk/ttp.html section. (They use the same technology recently introduced by the British Library – if you’ve never played with these digitised books, do so. The magnifying glass feature is jaw-dropping.)
The library forms part of the new Wellcome Collection. The rest (galleries, exhibitions, lectures, café, etc.) opens in June.
