Scientific Data is inviting submissions releasing and describing functional genomic high throughput screen datasets. Submissions may be from a range of screening strategies that relied on a variety of different functional genomic libraries, including siRNA, shRNA, CRISPR, as well as cDNA and ORF overexpression libraries. Submitted articles may be considered for inclusion in a special article collection to be launched in September 2016. Read more
Next week the Research Data Alliance (RDA) Seventh Plenary Meeting will take place in Tokyo, Japan. Data experts from all over the world will gather in Tokyo, marking this as an excellent opportunity for those wishing to learn about open research data and the open science landscape, especially in Japan. Before the RDA, the Japan Science and Technology Agency is organizing The Data Sharing Symposium, and afterward the Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) along with the National Institute of Informatics, are co-organizing the Asian Open Access Meeting. In 2010, BANTER started with a “tweet-up” (which is exactly what it sounds like, a meet-up of people who know each other from twitter) at a bar in San Diego during the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN). Natural born entertainer, @doc_becca, decided to make this a standard feature of the unofficial SfN program and ever since, BANTER has been an increasing success with neuroscience “tweeps” and bloggers. I ran some @symplur analytics for #sfn15 (official twitter hashtag for the main conference) to get this great dataviz on tweeps using the tag from Sept 16–Nov 16. There are more than 40 people among the top #sfn15 tweeps who also attended BANTER, which is a nice correlation. Are you in the picture? Read more

Scientific Data’s content is now indexed by PubMed and freely available through PubMed Central (PMC), two interlinked services maintained by the US National Library of Medicine that are widely used by researchers in the biological and biomedical sciences. We have also been approved for indexing in the more selective MEDLINE database and our content will be progressively incorporated into MEDLINE in the near future. Read more
